Acupressure How Does It Work

Acupressure is an ancient Chinese healing method going back past 2,000 years. It is closely related to acupuncture, is based on the on the same basic concepts and stimulates the same acupoints.

The human body has 12 main meridians that carry the life force or qi (chi) energy through the body. These 12 acupressure meridians start at the fingertips or toes and connect to the major organs of the body.

Acupressure helps to balance the vital life forces of the body. Working along the meridians, it uses fingers, knuckles or both hands working together, to stimulate the acupressure points in order to reduce energy blockages and balance the energy flow.

Here is a way of putting this into a picture that the layperson can grasp: Let’s say you are adding pressure that would correspond to a certain area in the body. Look at the meridian like a water hose with an obstruction in it. If you were to apply pressure above the obstruction and hold it until sufficient pressure built up behind it, when you released the pressure, it would push along that blockage till normal flow had resumed. That is similar to the way acupressure works.

Let’s say an organ in the body is out of balance and may be afflicted with dis-ease. Pressure on the related acupressure points will help to normalize the enery flow to that organ. When the related pressure point is first pressed it will be tender. With continued acupressure treatment it is going to become less and less sensitive, as the dis-ease improves.

Acupressure may require a number of treatments. You don’t pop a pill. Acupressure works with the person as a whole: the mind, and the body the emotions and the spirit are one, not separate.

Acupressure treatment is not invasive and is relatively gentle. It can be used to relax the mind and the body, improve circulation and the removal of toxic waste from the body, relive stress and tensions relieve head and muscle aches and improve your energy levels. It can bring back an overall feeling of well being and it can also aid in delivering babies!

Some of the conditions that acupressure has been helpful for include renal failure, diabetes, asthma, breast cancer, intestinal problems, back aches, and pms.
